About Us
Extensive Family Support
To increase the chances for each child to maximize his or her potential, Frankie Lemmon School has created a “Family Advocacy Program”. The school personnel essentially become members of each child’s family, providing instruction to parents and siblings as well as the child. The school is a source of information and advice for parents learning to navigate the many challenges they and their family face. School staff becomes intimately involved with the family, providing much needed compassion, understanding, empathy, and support wherever and whenever possible. Parents frequently plead for an extension of the high quality education and care they and their child receive while at Frankie Lemmon School as the transition into special education programs at regular public or private schools can be daunting. The school’s team continues to provide services and support to the child and family to ease the transition to elementary school, and if desired, long after the child leaves Frankie Lemmon.
Resources for Parents
Frankie Lemmon School personnel “go above and beyond” to help parents of children with special needs by serving as an advocate and source of information for parents. Resources that the school provides include:
- Library of resource books on topics such as sibling relationships, behavior management, sensory issues, syndromes, toilet training, medications, and more
- Parent workshops which provide training in sign language, toilet training, behavior management, and other skills
- In-home communication tools and systems designed for the individual child’s needs
- Development of individualized behavior plans for home use
- School staff participation in evaluations, doctor visits, hospital visits as needed
- On-going involvement in IEP meetings for children who have transitioned from Frankie Lemmon School to Elementary School
Frankie Lemmon School maintains an “open door” policy for parents to seek input and advice from school professionals not only during regular parent-teacher conferences but on an as-needed basis.
